Axel Waris and Max Sjövall in the FIP Rise Tournament in Belgium

Posted by Matias Sarelius

In the FIP Rise Roeselare tournament played in Rumbeke, Belgium, the Finnish pair Axel Waris (Finnish ranking 6) and Max Sjövall (ranking 3) are participating.

The pair is rarely seen on the same side of the net, as both Waris and Sjövall have profiled themselves as players in the B side. It will be interesting to see which player starts the tournament in the A side.

Currently, Sjövall is the best Finnish player in the FIP ranking at position 283 (43 points). Waris is at position 553 (9 points).

Waris and Sjövall advance directly to the main draw of 32 pairs in the Belgian FIP Rise tournament, where they will face the English pair Jake Bewley and George Weller on the first round on Friday, November 30, 2024.

Bewley is ranked 575 (8 points) in the FIP ranking, and Weller is at position 714 (5 points).

Bewley is a familiar player to Waris, as they played together as a pair at the beginning of October in the FIP Rise Stratford tournament in London. There, the pair progressed to the main draw with two wins in the qualifiers, losing in the first round match.

The second round of the tournament and the quarterfinals will be played on Saturday, November 30, 2024, and the semifinals and final will be played on Sunday, December 1, 2024.
